GCC Family STEM Parents as Learning Partners – First Workshop!
Empowering parents as learning partners means more blended and personalized learning to expand on families’ capacities to support children at home and school.
We launched our first-ever Family STEM Parents as Learning Partners (PLP) program on Saturday afternoon, 5/1/2021. The program consists of three 90-minute activity-based workshops on consecutive Saturday afternoons where parents and middle school students participate in challenging hands-on projects together while exploring learning styles and improving communication. Family STEM PLP is led by scientist and educator Dr. Ray Ann Havasy, founder and director of the Rockville Centre-based Center for Science Teaching and Learning. Each workshop features a unique topic relating to physical and life sciences, health and wellness, engineering, technology, and mathematics.

Our Family STEM PLP program will hold a new session in June: 6/5/2021, 6/12/2021, 6/19/2021 (3 workshops – 90 minutes each). We are currently enrolling new students for the June session, visit glownyc.org/stem2021. Seats are limited to the first 15 students. A limited number of scholarships are available for eligible students and families.
