2024 Fall Festival Wrap-Up
Sep 21, 2025

This year's Fall Festival was an unforgettable celebration of culture, community, and the spirit of autumn! Inspired by rich harvest traditions from the surrounding communities and the Chinese holiday "Zhong Qiu Jie" (the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival), GCC's annual Fall Festival at Kissena Corridor Park once again drew thousands of Flushing residents and New Yorkers from far and wide to celebrate the arrival of Fall together.

The stage burst to life with a colorful array of performances, ranging from Yosakoi Japanese Dance to a beautiful Argentine folk dance duet and a Hanfu runway, and included stellar performances from the Fresh Meadows Line Dance Group, New York Choy Lee Fut Lion Dance group, Neela Dance Academy, New York Shandong Association, New York Chinese Chorus, XH Music & Art Center, Zhengyang's Violin Studio, Zao Learning Education, Kinding Sindaw, and Glow Cultural Center artists Linda Quach & Qi Dai.
In a surprising turn of events, Prime Fitness invited a secret guest on stage during their yoga showcase – former City Council member Peter Koo, and crowd favorite Cido the clown dazzled the crowd with magic trick after magic trick, both to exclamations of wonder and joy. The talent of our local artists and cultural groups of New York ensured that our Fall Festival audience enjoyed in full the richly diverse traditions of the AAPI community and beyond.

The festival grounds brimmed with energy as over 60 booths showcased local NYC businesses and organizations. Attendees enjoyed hands-on activities ranging from Chinese yo-yo, cornhole games, riddles, arts & crafts, self-defense workshops, and FDNY's CPR training, to family-friendly fun such as bouncy houses, the "sauce drop," and face-painting. In particular, the DIY lacquer fan activity was a hit, with over 300 fans made over the course of 3 hours, and Raising Cane's lemonade stand, GCC's popcorn and cotton candy stands also served thousands of participants.

With vibrant performances, interactive activities, and a true sense of togetherness, the 2024 Fall Festival was a great success. Out of the nearly 1000 participants surveyed, 40% came from outside Flushing, 68% were low-income families, and 90% were of Asian ethnicity, with the median household size being 4. We take pride in being able to make so many different activities, services, and performances available to the community free of charge, and hope to continue doing so with the support of our partners, friends, and community members.
That said, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our community, sponsors, and supporters for making this event a widely accessible celebration for families to come together, celebrate culture, and enjoy a day filled with joy. See you next Fall!
